Literacy reinforcers are powerful classroom tools. They reinforce academic content, can be taken home by students to spark conversations with families, and support literacy development outside the classroom.

Here are some ways to manage the many Literacy Reinforcers that students will earn in the classroom to stay organized:

Pocket Charts

  • Assign a pocket for each student

  • As students earn reinforcers, they place them in their pockets

  • Teachers can easily track who has received a reinforcer and who might need support

  • Promotes visual equity and accountability

Clothespins on the desk

  • Use removable double-sided sticky tape and attach it to a clothespin

  • Stick the clothespin to student desks

  • Students clip their reinforcers for easy access and visibility

  • At the end of the day, they take them home!

Book Boxes or Pencil Boxes

  • Utilize materials you already have (pencil boxes, book bins, cubbies, etc.)

  • Students place reinforcers inside their boxes

  • Keeps things organized and familiar

Clothespins on boxes

  • Stick a clothespin (with double-sided tape) on the outside of a book box for quick access and display

  • Clothespin is removable and re-positionable

  • Can visually see the Literacy Reinforcers
