GLAD Strategies in Spanish: La Poesía y Los Cantos (Videos) 1

Incorporating poetry and chants in the classroom is an excellent way to provide guided oral practice to all of your students. Check out the following classroom demonstrations of the Be GLAD Poetry strategy modeled in two different Spanish dual immersion classrooms! This is part 1.

Poetry & Songs (English)

Poetry provides the opportunity to practice oral language with a low affective filter in a fun, engaging way.

In the first video, the teacher leads a class of first grade two-way language immersion students in chanting a “Yes, of course” (“¡Claro que sí!”) poem in Spanish. The teacher has embedded vocabulary and academic content to support the instruction of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for the grade level.
